Francois and the Atlas Mountains, The Bookies Runner & Stephen Hudson & the Fiat Pandas - Tuesday 31st January 2012 8pm - Tickets £5 adv / £6 door

Date:
Tue, 31/01/2012 - 20:00

The delightful French singer-songwriter, musician and animator brings his collection of Gallic chamber-pop and chanson to the UK, performing songs from his latest album 'E Volo Love'.

Recently signed to Domino Records, François’ playful vocals croon above electronic beats, African rhythms, rich piano chords, shimmering electric guitars and an all-female polyphonic vocal group to create a colourful sound-world.

‘A tour de force of French pop eccentricity.’ The Word

Quote from the Stool Pigeon:

"There's a childish pleasure in making music, playing and creating for the joy of the act itself, rather than for any conscious end goal. Frànçois' music is full of this sense of simple wonder and yet too contemplative to ever become cloying. It's a dreamlike amalgamation of French and English lyrics over lifting acoustic guitars and impressionistic pianos - part Adrian Orange joyous freedom, part Erik Satie sad melancholia."Stool Pigeon

STEPHEN HUDSON AND THE FIAT PANDAS

Stephen Hudson is a singer living in Lancaster who writes songs about Heat magazine, dog-walking and teenage boy's murderous fantasies over their parents. Whether solo or backed by his country-garage band the Fiat Pandas, his sets veer from fragile, funny and fierce. Taking inspiration from acts like Lambchop, Daniel Johnston and the Lemonheads, Stephen displayed his strong DIY sense of adventure with the release of his first single 'Tallulah?': each copy came in a handmade case shaped like a red piano, and quickly sold out after being played on Steve Lamacq's BBC Radio 2 show. Last Autumn he and the Fiat Pandas embarked on a triumphant tour of Northern England and Scotland, vowing to play anywhere where black pudding or haggis was on the menu, finishing at Ramsbottom Festival opening for the Guillemots and Badly Drawn Boy. This year promises to be even better, with a debut album due for release and a spate of New Year shows, including a support for Tom Wait's favourite Jesca Hoop.

"A genuinely gifted talent" Songs From Under the Floorboards

"Beautiful, melodically exquisite indie-pop" Rough Trade.
