Summer Ska Spectacular with Bang the Skillet & Esperanza

Friday, 8 July 2016 - 8:00pm

A SUMMER SKA SPECTACULAR!

BANG THE SKILLET

Direct from Delft in Holland Bang the Skillet fly the Dutch flag for Ska, Calypso and Reggae and are flying in for a short northern tour of England as special guests of Shadow Management.

Take a skillet, put in some old school Ska and Rocksteady Music from the 50’s and 60’s, mix that with some Reggae, Rhythm & Blues, add some Caribbean flavours like Calypso and Soca and let it cook for a while....That is about the sound of Bang the Skillet!

Taking their inspiration from the likes of Laurel Aitken, Go Jimmy Go, The Slackers, See Spot, Babylove and the Vandango's, Dr. RingDing, Lord Kitchener, Alton Ellis, Phyllis Dillon and The Skatalites this range of influences provides a heady mix of great music designed to get you dancing all night long.

ESPERANZA

Complimenting this Ska Spectacular we have Glasgow’s finest Ska export Esperanza. A nine-piece Ska collective famed for live shows where their infectious rhythm has the crowd involuntarily jumping in time. In hectic years of gigging around Scotland and beyond, they have honed and perfected a high-tempo set, combining superb self-penned songs with a selection of Ska classics, until there isn't an ounce of fat left on it.

The quality of the band’s live shows has led to them being increasingly in demand: playing at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony; festivals up and down the country; and sharing stages with some of the biggest names in Ska, Punk and Reggae, including Toots and the Maytals, The Skatalites, Bad Manners, The Beat, The Selecter, Neville Staple, The Undertones, Fishbone and The Toasters.

"Esperanza are more at home on Jamaica Street than on Bob Marley's native island, which is perhaps why there's urban grit in amongst the Caribbean sunshine of their debut album, Permanent Ska. The Scottish Specials? Indeed, and they've now recaptured the energy of their gigs." SUNDAY HERALD

"Highlights included Scottish seven-piece Esperanza’s snappy, brass-buoyed ska." THE SCOTSMAN
