TUFF LIFE BOOGIE and THEY EAT CULTURE present

Scott and Charlene's Wedding

Scott & Charlene’s Wedding’s Craig Dermody is the voice of a generation, it just so happens to be a generation mired in dead end jobs while smiling into the sunshine as they wonder when someone is going to show up and call the cops on the party again.

Scott and Charlene's Wedding was initially just a side-track to Craig's activity in Melbourne bands such as Divorced, Spider Vomit and Lindsey Low Hand.  Nothing was planned for SACW beyond the 200 copies of self-released album 'Para Vista Social Club', complete with 'reclaimed' hand- painted sleeves, which emerged in 2010.  Whilst Craig relocated to New York an unstoppable momentum built around the slacker grunge-pop nugget he'd left behind, resulting in the LP eventually being picked for wider release up by labels in Australia, USA and the UK.

Craig's New York experiences were recorded in the 2nd LP, 'Any Port in A Storm', which was released in 2013 to great reviews, which variously referenced Pavement, The Go-Betweens, Jonathan Richman, Flying Nun Records, Lemonheads, all accurate touchstones for the SACW sound.

Returning to Melbourne after a year of touring, with stints in New York and London and a quick trip around the globe, Dermody’s current writing reflects a new found world-weariness to wrap around his usual heart-on-sleeve lyrics and tales of everyday life. Never at a loss for a jangly riff or a humorous and poignant tale, Dermody doesn’t mature so much as he marvels at his inability to mature.
The new material bursts forward with the usual ragged charm, and Scott and Charlene's Wedding will be showcasing their third album ‘Mid Thirties Single Scene’, propelled by an all-star band.  If you are a fan of cool Aussie and NZ acts, you should not miss this gig.

Vukovar

Last seen in Preston supporting Blue Orchids, the balaclava-clad trio Vukovar hail from the St Annes/Wigan/St Helens axis of evil.  They emerged thirty years too late to take up their rightful place at the Leeds Futurama Festival, but nonetheless at the rite time for their acerbic, bass-heavy post-punk to be informed by Coil, Cabaret Voltaire, Sisters of Mercy, J.G. Ballard, J.G. Thirlwell and The Coachwhips.

Resourceful and prolific, Vukovar have put out two great albums, ‘Emperor’ and ‘Voyeurism’, in the last 12 months on the Small Bear label and some more provocatively-titled releases on the way, which will be unveiled at this gig. Make sure you turn up early to see one of our favourite North-West acts.

Ohmns

Every time the doomed garage-psych quartet Ohmns convene in their basement rehearsal pit, the riff fairy brings them an offering.

Sometimes it is the same riff as the last time, but no matter it still gets thrown around the room, battered against the walls, trampled into the floor and twisted into a new tune.

One of the best new bands in Liverpool and latest inheritors of the tradition of warped Merseysiders such as The Walking Seeds and Dr Phibes and the House of Wax Equations, Ohmns only release to date, 5 track cassette ‘The Rice Tape’ sold out its pressing  in double-quick time, and we’re pleased to present them in Preston for the first time.
