With a Little Bit of Luck by Sabrina Mahfouz

Thursday, 5 May 2016 - 8:00pm

‘I want to be iconic. I want to be beautiful, reckless, feared, hated, ahead of the times. I want to be different, I want to be dangerous…’

London, 2001. Raves. Revision. Re-election. Nadia is swept up in one hot summer’s night of love that promises endless possibilities. Drinking, dancing, hope, ambition, lust, greed… and decisions that will determine the rest of her life.

Rhythmically underscored by a live mix of old school UK Garage, award-winning writer Sabrina Mahfouz explores the legacy of a cultural movement that defined the hopes of a generation.

London, 2015. Re-wind.

WITH A LITTLE BIT OF LUCK is a new theatrical experience - part play, part musical, part gig. Theatre you can dance to.

An actor plays multiple characters to tell Nadia’s story. With her on stage are a musician and a singer and together they underscore the entire show, mixing moments of the story with the lyrics and music of dance floor filling UK garage hits. A play re-mixed by a garage DJ.

WITH A LITTLE BIT OF LUCK captures the euphoria of the summer of 2001, a halcyon time before 9/11 when New Labour promised glorious futures for young people in Cool Britannia and a new genre of music sprang up in the nightclubs of London to capture hearts and minds.

Originally commissioned for a festival audience, WITH A LITTLE BIT OF LUCK premiered to standing ovations and dancing in the aisles at The Latitude Festival 2015.
