Whats On

Kirsty Almeida and the Troubadours

Saturday, 10 November 2018 - 7:00pm

Kirsty Almeida has a fascinating story to tell, a cosmic journey through art and music that has taken many twists and turns, but with her music, lyrics, and enchanting voice remaining a constant force of creativity and natural beauty through it all.

Nominated, and subsequently winning, the prestigious and much coveted 'Take 5 Jazz Award' in 2009, Kirsty was signed by DECCA, an arrangement that resulted in a Martin Glover produced debut album, invitation to perform at the Barbican for Joe Boyd's Nick Drake tribute night 'Way To Blue, The Songs of Nick Drake', and performing at the G8 in Moscow to 38,000 people.

... and then came a twist.

Having stepped aside from the music industry to nurture her newly born son Ray, Kirsty grew restless, and it wasn’t long before she threw herself into her next big project, The Wonder Inn, in the thriving Northern Quarter of Manchester. Rescuing an empty and run down three story warehouse, Kirsty put heart and soul into creating her vision, and The Wonder Inn became one of the most talked about and inspiring wellness centres in the City, impacting thousands of people from local businesses through to the homeless, a safe space for the artists and musicians of the City, driving the project forward with indelible passion, incredible vision, immense love of the building, and inspirational strength ~ a strength within that breaks down the impossible into manageable, and turns dreams into realities.

However, burning away within was always a desire to return to writing, recording, and performing her uniquely beautiful music, letting free the music inside her, music she not only hears, but sees as it dances around in front of her.

The result of which is 'Moonbird', Kirsty's evocative forthcoming new album, an album mixed by 5 times Grammy Award Winner Jerry Boys at his Moor Room Studio in Bodmin Moor. Jerry has worked with the world-famous Buena Vista Social Club and received prestigious accolades for a sublime body of work, which includes The Beatles, Pink Floyd, The Shadows, Yehudi Menuhin, The Rolling Stones and many more.

The release of Moonbird will coincide with a short tour of Slovenia and Italy, followed by a series of winter shows culminating within the majestic Gothic masterpiece that is Beverley Minster in East Yorkshire, where Kirsty and her band  will perform her music accompanied by the 70 strong Minster Choir.

Sometimes a body of music appears from nowhere that stops you in your tracks.... the key the unlocks what you listen to for the foreseeable future, unable to remove it from your turntable, a constant ear worm that just keeps digging, music that you can't help but share to all that will listen, .... it's YOUR music, YOU found it first, and you're sharing the love...

Ladies & Gentlemen, here is Moonbird, the mesmerising new art of Kirsty Almeida...
