A FIELD IN ENGLAND

Director: Ben Wheatley
UK/2013/ 1 hr 30mins/ 15
Writer: Amy Jump

Amid the Civil War in 17th-century England, a group of deserters flee from battle through an overgrown field. Captured by an alchemist, the men are forced to help him search for a hidden treasure that he believes is buried in the field.

"A challenging piece of work to be sure, due for eventual midnight-movie cultdom." Film.com

"It's about shifting power games, mostly, and suggests a period film made by Samuel Beckett in one of his more playful moods."
Boston Globe

"What a unique film-maker Wheatley is becoming. From the realms of contemporary social realism, crime, comedy and fear, he has moved on to lo-fi period drama, but cleverly alighted on the one period that suits his stripped-down visuals and subversive instincts perfectly. The English revolution may be the one that isn't taught in schools, but it has provided the inspiration for a punk nightmare."
Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian

A FIELD IN ENGLAND is screened at The Continental on Tuesday 13th September. Doors open 6.45pm.

£4 entry on the door.
