Nearly CONTINENTAL BEER & CIDER FESTIVAL time again at last! And as ever that means another brilliant LIVE MUSIC line-up with something for everyone in our outdoor Music Marquee.

 

 

Funky business from BLUE JUICE and BARRY GAMMON, Indie-Rock with MOON AND THE BEAMS, THREE DAY WEEKEND, THE PURPLE HAT MOB and more, Jazz with THE MATT WELLS TRIO, and much more!

Thursday 18th July

7:30pm OPEN MIC VS. CLASSIC ALBUM NIGHT 

 
Two of our most popular regular music events - Open Mic Night and Classic Album Night - go head-to-head in our Music Marquee for the opening night of Continental Beer & Cider Festival #19
 
Venture within to share your musical talent or simply relax and enjoy some great live music, along with some 100% classic vinyl records through our beefy Beer Festival PA. Bring some records of your own for a spin too! 
 
As an added bonus, members of The Floyd Band will be here, giving an new spin on some of your favourite Floyd and other classic rock gems. This laid-back outdoor jam will ease you nicely into the musical proceedings to come… 

 

Friday 19th July 
 
5pm JAMES G. WILSON
 
Acoustic Guitar finger-picking, combining elements of blues, folk, classical and Celtic styles. 
 
6pm THE ONIONS
This Preston-based band’s repertoire of Guitar-Driven Indie Covers, include songs from the sixties to the noughties, played with their own darker edge. Expect hits from the likes of The Cure, Arctic Monkeys, Echo & the Bunnymen and The Wedding Present in this blistering set. 
 
7pm DEEPSHADE
Hailing from Wigan, Deepshade are quickly making many new friends with their formidable Grungy Alternative-Rock sound that takes from the fundamental elements of Nirvana, Queens of the Stone Age, and Alice in Chains, as well as incorporating The Doors and even Beck. “[Their] record is a call to arms for anyone who is absorbed by gritty rock, akin to Kyuss and Led Zeppelin” Planet Mosh
 
8pm MOON AND THE BEAMS
Psychedelic Indie Folk Rock from this hugely popular local supergroup! Over the past few years they’ve cemented themselves as one of the most exciting acts on the scene. Drawing on 60s and 70s psychedelic rock influences like The Doors and Jefferson Airplane, they're an absolute must-see live and just seem to get better and better. 
 
9pm BLUE JUICE
Blue Juice play Funk, Soul & Acid Jazz Classics taken from over four decades. They play music of Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, Chaka Khan, Brand New Heavies and others with their own style and effortless groove. Gary Thistlethwaite, Keith Ashcroft, Dave Jackson and Andy Smith each bring experience and exceptional musicality into the mix producing the perfect sound around Laura Thistlewhwaite’s soaring, soulful vocals. Live, Blue Juice is something to behold. There is a palpable raw energy amidst the chops making it impossible for any audience member to stay still!
 
DJs: THROWDOWN DJS present SOLID GOLD 
 
 
The Solid Gold team are in full effect, keeping the decks warm with the freshest, funkiest vinyl cuts from the golden age of hip hop and the funk and soul era.
 
Closing on the Friday night, the boys will be laying down a funk-filled vinyl set fused with disco, before returning Saturday afternoon to warm for local hip hoppers La French and FMA + 12 Gage. Ain’t no half steppin’. 
 
Saturday 20th July 
 
1pm THE CONSCIOUSNESS COLLECTIVE
Here’s something different to ease you into your Saturday! The Consciousness Collective is a six-piece full AV group including singing bowls, gongs, chimes, rainsticks, live electronica, cello, trumpet, didgeridoo, throat singing, keys, bass, guitar, percussion, alongside drones, complex hypnotizing beats, field recordings of monks in deep meditative trances, binaural beats (designed to entrain brainwaves into a deep meditative state) and other sonic and visual techniques designed to elevate the soul, raise positive energy, clear and activate the Chakras. Truly trance-inducing and full of positivity, in sync with ethereally inspired visuals and colour therapy techniques. This is not just a show, it’s an experience!
 
2pm PATRONS ONLY
Living on opposite sides of the Channel, brother and sister are reunited, like back in the good old days, at The Continental Beer Festival. On the French menu of the day is a mix of covers from the language of love classics, to very northern British rock. All of that, Patrons Only
 
3pm LA FRENCH
La French is a solo project from Luke French, of Preston's premier post-punk provocateurs Fighting. A lush melange of drifting ambient guitar loops & ambient beats. His self-titled album is released on experimental & electronic imprint Concrète Tapes.
 
5pm FMA + 12 GAGE
  
FMA + 12 Gage are the World's Greatest Father & Son Rap Duo. Since joining forces in 2013 their anger-fuelled songs and live shows have struck a chord with audiences and they have surprised many with their slick raps and energetic performances. Debut album 'Parental Advisory' (get it?) was released last year to great acclaim from the hip-hop pundits.   
 
6pm THREE DAY WEEKEND
This Indie-Rock four piece are undeniably “ones to watch”.  They’ve already been picked up by Scruff of the Neck, Absent Kelly, and the iconic This Feeling / Red Stripe - having featured on BBC Radio 6 recommended by Steve Lamacq. With new music on the horizon, Tom, Rhys, Liam and Will are attracting a growing fanbase with their tight performance style. The more you ignore them, the bigger they get, and the lads are currently gigging all over the UK. 
 
7pm THE MATT WELLS TRIO  
This deep n’ dirty Jazz Trio consists of highly respected long-time stalwarts Matt Wells on guitar, Norman Helm on bass, and Tom Royale on drums. Imagine a cross between Hendrix playing the jazz standards and Duke Ellington doing a Deep Purple tribute show and you’re not even halfway there. 
 
8pm THE PURPLE HAT MOB   
The Purple Hat Mob is the newest sound to emerge from Preston. With influences from Pink Floyd, Tame Impala and Radiohead, they provide a modern makeover to classic Indie-Rock. Their first gig was supporting Hardwicke Circus in Carlisle. This five-man-army consists of songwriter, lead singer and guitarist David Marley, his brother Stuart on guitar, school mates Jarrar on bass and Alex on synths, and Dave's mate Isaac on drums.
 
9pm BARRY GAMMON AND THE MIDDAY INCIDENT 
Barry Gammon perform a unique cocktail of infectious foot-tapping, knee-bending Proggy Future Funk! The North West’s hardest-working electro funkateers bring a blend of electronic beats and live instrumentation to get your knees bending and your feet moving. This combo has to be heard and seen to be believed! 
 
Plus hip hop, funk and soul all day from the SOLID GOLD DJ crew - closing set at 10pm after Barry Gammon
